"We are deeply sorry for all the users who were victims of this fraud scheme, but in this case our remote access software was used by fraudsters to take advantage of people willing to provide access to their computer to unknown individuals. In a step-by-step breakdown of the fraudsters' methods, RBI said that initially victims are lured to download the 'AnyDesk' or any other similar application from Playstore or AppStore on their mobile. On Feb 16, Cogencis had reported, quoting a confidential RBI letter to banks, that the central bank had warned about a new modus operandi being used to commit frauds in the digital payments space, including through Unified Payments Interface, by gaining remote access to a victim's mobile device using AnyDesk application. RBI is not keen to pass judgment on the matter till this data is collected," the source said. RBI has sent out the warning to banks to prevent further damage.
